Abby and I went to see LOTR again yesterday. I'm finally enough past the overwhelming awe to start examining Pete's interpretation of the text. And again, I'm awe-struck. One of my favorite things that he does is the rape of Isengard. He really brings out Tolkien's man vs nature, the evil of technology theme. The ripping up of the trees is enough, but the mass production of the weaponry and the army is wonderful. The way in which the Uruk-hai are made, I'm getting a litle bit of a cloning parallel from that. Wonderful things to think on. Thought of the Day: Why Spiderman is better than Superman: Superman's superpowers don't make all that much sense. Why does he have x-ray vision? What on Krypton could possible cause the evolution of x-ray vision. The super strenght thing kind of holds up, but not his ability to fly. Just because Krypton has much higher gravitation force does not mean that he could escape the gravity on Earth. At least getting spidie powers from being bitten by a radioactive spider has some logic to it.
